Dedicated to my man, Muhammad Irfan.
Always fear Allah, and insha Allah you'll be alright.
I say Muhammad, Muhammad Irfan
I say he’s our man,
Let’s raise him up to Amir if we can.
Let’s subject him to fitnah
Let’s make him corrupt
Let’s give him more pressure
Let’s make him unjust.
He has the taqwa, I can see it right now
But we can change that can’t we
Let’s start to change it from now.
Whoa, where you runnin’ to Muhammad!
No, don’t run away!
Come back to the power
It ain’t pressure, it’s all just play.
Stop complaining Muhammad
We don’t want to hear it,
We’re gonna keep giving you power
And you’re gonna get to where you need it.
Till you lust for the votes
Till you command respect from the sisters
Till you stop following your conscience
Till you become one of the sinners.
Till you stop hearing Hassan
And his reminders of Taqwa
Till you stop heading Rami’s suggestions
And call it silly foolish fatwa.
So come to us Muhammad
Stop doing what is right
Stop listening to your conscience
Because that might make you disliked.
Just do what we tell you
Or else you’ll never be re-elected
Soon you’ll start rubber stamping everything
So your votes don’t get rejected.
You used to not care if you were ousted
And so you did what was right,
But when taqwa starts to fade
You’ll start to give up the fight.
But I know your not like this
Ain't that right Muhammad Irfan
You’re not gonna give two cents
If they throw you in the can.
You carry the name of the Prophet
Unto whom we ask peace
Are you gonna live up to his legacy
or be put to disgrace?
You can start up a new place
Called “Alif Lam Meeem”
Where things are done the right way
And justice is supreme.
You can take all the outcasts
And the deprived and the mind-slaves
And give them what they never had
Eman in Allah and the Final day.
You can stop worrying about cliques, sects, and fitnas every day
Because you would be free from politics and just living piously in Allah’s way.
You’ll tell Rami to stop being an old man, and start living up his life.
You’ll tell Hassan you love him, but he needs to get a wife.
So don't worry my friend
And watch your intentions all the time
And keep the pious besides you
Because it's easy to get corrupted in these unrighteous times.
And never be afraid to be fired or to quit
Sometimes it’s better to be Muhammed Irfan the regular man,
And be to Allah's will the one who submits.
can someone please explain whats going on?..i do not understand what has happend, all i know is that something happend to bring disunity and there seems to be a lot of hate floating around.
from an unbiased, unjudgemental, unhateful, no fingerpointing point of view please
i also fail to see how this poem does not reflect the very injustice, fitnah, and politics it is criticizing. an ENTIRE GROUP is being judged, the intentions of another leader are being questioned (if you are suggesting the current Amir is corrupt)
on October 29, 2005 8:53 PMAsalaam Aleikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatu,
It has nothing to do with critisicm of the current Amir of ISRU. I changed the first paragraph to better reflect that I think.
It's about how somebody's inner fears should feel or be if they've been put in a position of power or responsibilty. They should not desire it.
Please read "The Just Ruler, Part 2" for more info
salaam Alaykum Warahmatullah Wabarakatu,
A nice humorous way of sending the message of warning to those in power. Power is a very dangerous thing, because although with it you can do so much good, it can easily turn you to corruption. Gandalf said something along those lines regarding the one ring in Lord of the Rings.
I have to say alhamdulillah that I was never on the shura. Although a part of me felt bad that I never one, it was only for my ego's sake of feeling that maybe I wasn't good enough. But, not meaning to judge, knowing some people who have been on the shura, it is not always a good character that gets one elected.
I just want to make it ABUNDANDTLY clear what Rami stated this article is about:
"It's about how somebody's inner fears should feel or be if they've been put in a position of power or responsibilty. They should not desire it."
Think of Muhammad Irfan as an archetype for the person who has just come into a leadership role, suddenly becoming a major target for shaytaan to scream the whispers.
Do not make this personal... neither to a person, nor to any specific organization. Any comments reflecting this will be summarily taken care of (we take 'em out back and give 'em a few affas).
and remember... it is upon us to advise our leaders in private if we have a problem with something they are doing. Muslims don't wave dirty laundry in the air (it gets quite a bit stinky stinky).
on October 30, 2005 1:41 AMAlhumdulilah...
this was a very intellectual piece. You really have to read it again and again to actually understand the message.
by the way you know what you can take literally...
