Control your Anger

by Rami Mahmoud Elsawah

“No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: That is truly easy for Allah.

In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favours bestowed upon you. For Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster.”(Surat Al-Hadid, 22,23)

Abu Dawud
Book 41, Number 4762:
Narrated Mu'adh ibn Jabal:

Two men reviled each other in the presence of the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and one of them became excessively angry so much so that I thought that his nose will break up on account of excess of anger. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: I know a phrase which, if he repeated, he could get rid of this angry feeling. They asked: What is it, Apostle of Allah? He replied: He should say: I seek refuge in Thee from the accursed devil. Mu'adh then began to ask him to do so, but he refused and persisted in quarrelling, and began to enhance his anger.

Book 41, Number 4764:
Narrated AbuDharr:

The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) said to us: When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down.

Book 41, Number 4766:
Narrated Atiyyah as-Sa'di:

AbuWa'il al-Qass said: We entered upon Urwah ibn Muhammad ibn as-Sa'di. A man spoke to him and made him angry. So he stood and performed ablution; he then returned and performed ablution, and said: My father told me on the authority of my grandfather Atiyyah who reported the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) as saying: Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution.

This article is fairly straightforward. It's not a homework assignment, just an article. Basically, anger is not cool...it's from shaytan. So control your anger and put yourself in a state at peace. You don't need zen for this, you just need Islam.

Things to help you stay at peace:

*Listen/read to Qu'ran much. Especially in the morning, on your way to work or school, sitting at home, or lying down when you're tired. Abdul Baset, Hosari, Ghamidi...such soothing voices. How can you not be at peace?

*Know that everything has already been pre-determined. This will give you Ridda(satisfaction) with anything that may happen. Also, know that only Allah, subhanna wa taala, can help you with situations.

*Realize that anger is not a good thing. Seek refuge from shaytaan and make ablutions. It does work if you are sincere.

May Allah help us to be peaceful people.

so true,
anger can really mess you up and your life. You can do stupid things with anger and also not having ridha of what Allaah SWT has given you can be like being unthankful and shirk and Allaah can punish you as a result.
Jazaa kullaahu khairan brother for this much needed article on controlling one's anger. So many people are lacking that and need that to make conscientious actions.

Asalaam Aleikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatu,

Bro, I wish I could see you train every day.

Btw, one should fight with 'emotional content', not anger. Anger makes you sloppy, clouds your judgement, leaves you open to error. Emotional content gives you concentration, ability, adds force .

Think of a person who fights for hatred over a person who fights for justice, as were the sahaba against the mushrikeen in so many battles. One Muslim warrior could take out three or more of the enemy. One army could take out another three times its size.

SubhanAllah akhi, that's an awesome point about those who fight for hatred and those who do so for justice.
