Each breath is a whisper
That my end is drawing near
Each heartbeat is a reminder
Of that inevitable moment
A second ago
I was a second younger
Seconds flow into minutes
Minutes into hours
Hours into years
And yet the next second
Has no guarantee
Will I see it or not?
I cannot know
I think of those who will be asked
How long was this worldly life of yours?
What will they say?
Only a day, or part of a day
A drop in the ocean
Nay! Not even a fraction of a drop
Is this life of Dunya
Compared to the eternal Aakhirah
And yet we live
Like we will never die
And we sin
Like we shall not have to answer why
I am not getting any younger
Neither are you
One day I shall die
And without doubt, so shall you
I will be alone
Except for my deeds
You will be alone
Except for your deeds
And yet it’s never too late
If I decide to turn to HIM
HE will be waiting for me
He will not turn me away
How Merciful is my Creator!
How is Forgiving is my Maker!
How Perfect is my Protector!
How Loving is my Sustainer!
Should I not then dedicate
This transient life of mine
To HIM who loves us unparallel?
To HIM who’s Perfection is infinite?
Ya ALLAH! To You do I submit.

MashaAllah sister, I greatly enjoyed your poem. It seems last week was all about marriage and this week is all about remembering death :).
I dont think I have ever thought about death as much as I have this week, and your poem fit wonderfully into my state of mind and flow of thoughts. MashaAllah, may Allah, Glorious and Exalted, reward you in both worlds. InshaAllah and Amin.
and hopefully I am not just thinking about death because of finals :)
