The Gift of Allah

by Rami Mahmoud Elsawah

Subhan Allah for all that we have been given:

For our families; to whom for some reason so many of us hate, but without which we would be completely lost. Yesterday I saw a child jump into a garbage bin looking for a scrap of food. Of this I kid you not. As I went over to him to hand him some cash he ran away…fearing that I might yell or punish him for making a mess of the garbage we throw away. He was afraid because obviously this had happened before…he was afraid of picking through garbage lest somebody yell at him. I thought to myself…even cats are allowed to pick through our garbage without a single word being said. This poor boy has become less than the cats. Allah forgive us for our endless stupidity.

For his Rahma; to which we would never survive without. When I came home after maghrib that same day, still sad after seeing that boy; I found a kitten meowing at my feet...its face like that of a lost child. He was not afraid of humans, a sign that he was born in a house and thrown away. He was an orphan who did not know how to fend for himself...he didn’t know how to pick for the scraps of food we so carelessly throw away so that he could survive. The bigger cats surely wouldn’t share. You could see such helplessness in his eyes.

For the Day of Judgement: because so much injustice goes unaccountable in this world. The day of judgement is the incubator of ridda and patience. With the knowing that justice will be done…the human soul can take anything.

Let us always be thankful for what Allah subhannahu wa taala has given us.

On January 20th 2004 (the day I joined Hidaya) I wrote in my journal:

Alhamdullilah.

The articles which I have written for hidaya, in fact everything good that has ever happened to me is due to Allah. I have Allah to thank for inspiration, for clarity, for thought, for a fully functioning body, for life, for death, for everything. It is only by Allah’s mercy that I enter paradise, and only by Allah’s mercy and grace that I avoid hellfire and the punishment of the grave. All praises be to Allah. I sincerely make dua, and hope and pray that I die a muslim, a mu’min, a saleh, a shaheed.

All praises are due to Allah, may Allah bless us all by his grace and his mercy.

May Allah grant us guidance.

Asalaam Aleikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatu,

Alhamdullilah, just so everyone knows...apperently everyone in the apartment building took a liking to the little kitten and for the past few days she's been munching on leftover chicken, fish and milk from everyone's dinner. I named her Bisbis.

As for the child, may Allah grant him mercy and help. This boy(maybe 10-12 years old) literally climbed inside of a garbage bin to find some food that people throw away..all this right in front of a bus stop with people watching. What gets me the most is how everyone just either looked the other way or didn't bother to help the kid out at all. Isn't it funny how so many times we humans treat animals better than we treat other human beings? Actually it's quite a bit depressing.

May Allah help us Jamiyan.

Wasalaam Warahmatullah Wabarakatu

Salaam Aliekum

I recently heard of a story about parents that adopted children and did not feed them. The children were so starved that they had to go and eat out of Garbage Cans, which is where some guy spotted one of them. To make the matter worse, the parents had other children that they took care of but did not starve them.

The kids were taken away by the police and after a few months, they both gained about 20 to 30 pounds. Some people are so insensitve, so out of touch with humanity, they would intentionally let a child starve.I think this sick attitude is only in America, where the Devil has so much influence to persuade people to do such a thing.

You are absolutley right that animals are taken care of better than humans. I seen a white puppy the other day with a sweater on and its nails were painted red. Someone even told me there is a donut shop, just for dogs! When I hear these things, I think to myself, this county is going to hell in a handbasket. America is in desperate need for some guidance. May Allah give it.

Oh, my God, I cannot believe I read this. Poor child, only ten-twelve, eating out of a garbage can, this is too much. Subhanallaah, all people care about is the cat. Is this here in USA? not that it matters if it is anywhere. I dont think I have seen such, I dont know how I would react if I did see someone eating out of a garbage can. I would save every food and finish all my plate, I am gonna go home and tell my brother about this. This is so disheartening, so sad.
